European Adventure 2017
We managed our first sleep-in this morning, waking at 9am so by that time all the little artisan shops were open. The bread maker was in full swing and the aroma amazing so we headed off down the slope to see what was on offer. The 2Sisters cafe had the French doors wide open as it was already 22 degrees and the coffee smells beckoned. The butchery/delicatessen was full of interesting bits and pieces and we walked out of there with more things to fill the fridge and cupboards, and a visit to the baker on the way back to the van and lunch was organised. The other little businesses in the complex were a cheese maker and a strawberry liqueur maker both of which sounded interesting but neither were open to the public unfortunately. Half an hour up the road is Windermere, heart of the Lakes District and the centre of Beatrix Potter country. Being school holidays and with the wonderful weather, this is obviously the Queenstown of England. Beautiful scenery and beautiful weather but boy what a mass of people. In the third camping ground we ventured into we managed to secure their last site, only 100 metres from the lake and a mile from the town. We spent the rest of the day walking the lake's edge and investigating the town. And then I met Peter Rabbit...he was lunching at the time but still had time for a chat! When we got back to camp we found he must have followed us home as there he was on the grass outside our van!
