Very exciting to be picking up our new home today. We left Freo at around 9 to take the car to get airbags fitted in the rear of the car. This will help level out the car with the weight of the caravan, and hopefully prevent too much wear and tear on our rear tyres. This took much longer than anticipated, so in the end we had to drive to the dealer in a borrowed car (FJ Toyota Land Cruiser 4 x 4 - interesting to drive) as we had our handover booked at 1pm.
Our new caravan awaited us, complete with a package of bubbly and glasses to help us celebrate our new purchase. Handover took over two hours, but there is a lot to go over and check. After this we had to do some paperwork, go to the bank to arrange the transfer of the payment and organise insurance before we drove out.
Finally we snapped the obligatory photo in front of our new caravan and drove out the gates with our new home. We will be back again in a few days though, as the caravan still has to have solar panels installed and Alko safety brakes. Luckily, the dealer, knowing our circumstances in that this is our home, has promised us a replacement caravan for a few days while they work on ours.
We felt more exhausted than excited at this point. We had meant to pick up our belongings from the freight yard after picking up the new caravan, but ran out of time. This job will now have to wait until Monday.
Meanwhile we drove to the caravan park nearby we had booked and unpacked what we had with us. We soon realised that we didn't have our power cord or water hose as these were still in storage. We borrowed these items, made our beds (had to cut the plastic off the mattresses), and felt grateful we had leftovers that we'd cooked the night before.
As you can guess we crashed into bed after a long, but ultimately satisfying, day.
Amazing that we have our own home again. This has been tough on Cadbury too, not just on us.
Night night - tomorrow we get to wake up in our new house on wheels xx
