Left the Principality of Hutt River this morning and took the long way round through the town of Northampton towards Port Gregory, where we are staying at the historic Lynton Station.
This used to be a convict hiring depot in the 1850s and was the first convict depot in WA north of Fremantle. Up to 60 ticket of leave convicts were brought here as labour for the local Geraldine mine site, but their labour was instead used to build the convict settlement. There are relics of the administration block, lime kiln, bakery, hospital, officers accommodation, cemetery as well as the restored depot and original homestead.
We set up the caravan and explored some of the station's history, sheds, stables and relics before driving to see the Pink Lake and Port Gregory.
Came back to Lynton Station and spent the evening sitting under a star lit sky around the communal camp fire with a nice glass of Shiraz enjoying the company of the other campers. Cooked burgers in the camp kitchen and ate them by the fire.
Reluctantly left the warmth of the fire to head inside and found we had lots of midge bites. Still no TV reception, so now that we've finally finished watching Breaking Bad, we watched the movie Oddball.
Night night, we will sleep with the sound of the distant (700 metres away) waves crashing against the shore to soothe us to sleep xx
