We visited Wave Rock today, along with heaps of other tourists. A natural rock formation shaped like a breaking wave, it is far smaller than you think it will be at around 14 metres high and 110 metres long. We had hoped for more sunshine while at the rock but the day proved mostly cloudy with little pockets of sunshine. We took lots of photos, as you do when you get to a touristy destination.
We ate lunch sitting by the fire at the cafe next to the rock and then we went to check out the nearby Hippo's Yawn rock, a towering hollow, cave-like rock formation that bears resemblance to a hippo opening its mouth.
Next we drove to Mulka's Cave a little distance away where you can read about the legend of Mulka and walk inside the cave formation and see 452 different stenciled aboriginal drawings, mostly of hands.
By the time we finished here it was already late afternoon and time to find a campsite. As we drove the sun broke out and the clouds disappeared allowing us to enjoy stunning views over fields of canola. We did entertain the thought of going back to see Wave Rock at sunset but knew we would then be driving in the dark to find a campsite so we pressed on and found a small place to camp for the night near Mount Walker called Roe Dam. Just us here, but it's quiet and clean and will do nicely.
Enjoyed a couple of glasses of moscato with dinner before settling in for the evening.
Good night, sweet dreams xx
