Tag 10 Siguer -Nyaux
It was a short last hike on the GR10 today. I finished already after 4h in the village of Siguer. At the same moment, when I arrived there, the sole of my left shoe went off. It was a sign (!) telling me that I had stopped the walk just at the right time. Tomorrow, also the weather is supposed to change (rain and thunderstorms are predicted). So, I did everything correctly.
On today's walk again, I had an interesting encounter with an animal, while I hiked along a forest trail. A herd of goats was in the middle of the trail. I was afraid that they might be guarded by a dog, but there was none and I relaxed. Instead, however, they panicked, when they saw me, and ran into the woods. With the exception of one fellow, who walked slowly next to me, completely bored of his stupid colleagues. After I passed the herd, I realized that I was going in the wrong direction- I had to go exactly, where the goats were hiding. Again the same happened: they panicked, the cool one stayed cool and looked bored at me ("you again"). Funnily , I am currently reading a Terry Pratchett novel ("Shepherds Crown"), in which a very smart goat is described ("Mephistopheles"), that can count and even go independently to the privy. Was it him???
I am wondering if my mind is going crazy when I am walking alone in the woods?
Anyway, the next non-planned situation that happened was the search for my hotel that I booked via Internet for Niaux. After I arrived in Niaux, I made first the reservation for visiting the famous prehistoric caves for the next day. Afterwards, I looked for the hotel. My route planner told me that its address is not directly in Niaux but in the next village (Tarascon), about 5 km away. So, I walked about an hour along an very unpleasant, busy, hot, and dusty road, until I arrived at the address - but this was a private family house. Confused, sweaty, and exhausted (it was really very hot) I went further to the tourist information of Tarascon, where they told me that the hotel in question was indeed in Niaux (where I just came from). I asked them to call me a taxi- and even the taxi driver did not know the place. I was wondering if the place really existed or of it was a fake. But together we eventually found it: a lovely place, very modern, with beautiful rooms, direct view to the Grottes de Niaux, and even a swimming pool.
Now the luxury part of my holiday will begin...
