Todays hike was theoretically very short but we took us a lot of time to recover from yesterday's tortures. It was nice and sunny, we had a phantastic breakfast in the morning followed by a successful visit in the Pharmacy were we obtained everything needed to cure our wounds. Then we had about 1200m uphill climbing combined with many breaks including one with in Loudenville were we had ice cream and several Panaché. Wonderful!
On the way we saw many autumn crocuses. I learned from my Dutch hiking friend Nienke who is a gardener that these are very rare. However, most likely they are rare in the Netherlands, whereas here we had plenty of those at least today (see picture).
Before Daimon got sunburned today, he showed me a really great poem (from Willian Henry Davies) that describes perfectly how one should enjoy times like that:
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
