It was a dull day today as we headed off up the road. First stop was to Threave Castle which was constructed in the 14th century and was one of the many strongholds for the 'Black' Douglas clan. Now a days the island is a wildlife reserve and you can still get across to the ruin which is surrounded by water, by ringing a bell on the jetty to summon a ferryman.
