European Adventure 2017
Sunday was another lovely day and the plan was to spend it in the garden. First up was the Eden Project which is an educational charity and is known for its giant greenhouses. It is so much more than that though and we spent a wonderful morning traveling the world through the Biomes and experiencing the world's largest rainforest in captivity, the sights and smells of the Mediterranean and much much more. What amazing foresight to build such a place. Their first project was to "make a 35acre global garden in a 50m deep crater that was once a china clay pit to demonstrate regeneration and the art of the possible". They sure have done that and more and it is magnificent. The afternoon was spent at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. These too were really lovely but on a completely different scale. We managed to get lost several times as we wandered around but it was a really interesting and pretty place to visit. It covered woodland, mud sculptures, jungle, vegetable and flower gardens. The Lost Gardens are so named as this obviously was and is part of the Heligan Estate and there are photos showing its gradual decline from its heyday in 1890 to their discovery in 1990. There has been a huge amount of work go in to transforming these gardens into the magnificent setting they are today. Our day ended close to Land's End at a little Caravan site (Trevedra Farm) on the southwestern point of England. It was very pleasant and we watched a magnificent sunset at about 9.30pm

Jane and John Sounds as though you are having a wonderful time. We went to Heligan the first year it opened, looks as though it has developed a lot further, time for a second visit I think. Hope you enjoy the rest of Cornwall as much as we do.
mum Bet you were drooling at the fantastic vegetable garden Geoff. Will expect great things when you get home.. had no idea such a place existed. Quite amazing.
Jo Kidd Loved Cornwall, so many interesting and beautiful places, mind you I haven't found an uninteresting place yet! hopefully we can catch up with you on our way back from Scotland. Will keep in touch. X
