Home, sweet home again. Ah. Minus my pack, and having arrived home a couple hours later than planned, but I'm home.
And what an intense weekend that was. Highs and lows. But, looking back, the highs definitely exceed the lows. There were just tons of little blessings, mainly in the form of people. Here are a few examples:
The guy who drove me across campus to Elise's when I just asked for directions...
The Argentenian who walked me to the student union because it was difficult to explain how to get there (see Rach, it's not just an Africa thing!)...
The strange but poetic woman who talked to me at the bus stop, then thanked me for listening...
The bus driver who saw me fumbling around for my transfer ticket and waved me on anyway... Then picked me up from a non-rapid-ride stop in the rapid-ride on the way back, so I wouldn't end up stranded as his was the last Sunday bus...
The cinema manager who drove me home...
The girl who befriended me while waiting to cross the road, and seeing my big pack offered me a place to stay - she's a CouchSurfer (www.couchsurfing.com) ...
Elise, of course, for providing me with her couch (so I didn't take up the stranger's offer), tortillas with honey, a shower that didn't smell, and - best of all - her quirky, energetic, inspiring company and conversation...
Rides to and from the petroglyphs [about 15,000 works of art on rocks]...
SouthWest Airlines for providing me a seat to Phoenix when an engine wouldn't start in our US Airlines plane... Then the US Airlines rep in San Diego who initially refused me a shuttle voucher as I'd "only" been delayed two hours (though buses were no longer running home) then changed her mind after seeing me walk away devastated (the last straw in a long, stretching day, which I won't detail here), and called me back to give me one...
So, so, so many blessings; it's been an amazing weekend. Will somebody please kick me if I don't go out of my way to repay all these kindnesses to others this week?!
