Another "of the week" category I've gotta add:
Buzz of the Week!
Yesterday's trip to Magic Mountain, a 16-rollercoaster amusement park, wins hands down. A bunch of about 80-odd international and local students piled into buses yesterday to hit the Los Angeles area theme park, and it was adrenaline-adrenaline-adrenaline!
Though, to be honest, about 80% of the time spent at the park was spent queuing for rides, often in hot hot hot sunshine, or in really badly ventilated undercover areas. The biggest queue was 1 hour 40, waiting for the latest and greatest ride: Tatsu.
Worth it? Definitely. We held hands four-abreast across the downwards-facing seats until we [or maybe just chicken old me!] were too scared to do anything but grip onto our seat handles. According to the experts, it's comprised of "'butterflies-in-your-stomach' plunges, huge sweeping spirals, stomach wrenching loops and sharp dives [and] high speed banked curves deliberately designed to enhance the ultimate sensation of flight."* But I wouldn't really know, it went too fast for me to remember any of the details.
That was after a warm-up on the world's first [and possibly world's slowest] loop rollercoaster. Then there was the ski-lift-style Batman ride; the largest looping rollercoast in the world; the world's fastest and tallest stand-up 'coaster* - which we boarded at the most perfect time, just after sunset: beautiful! And finally...
Goliath, with a super steep 250 feet drop!
If you're interested, you can see my videos for [very poor quality] footage of the drop, plus a couple videos of Tatsu. I've also started another San Diego photo album with pics from the day.
* Props to the Magic Mountain website for stats on the rides.
