The Past 7 Days in Review:
Gig of the week: Definitely Starfield, a rockin' Canadian worship band who played a free concert at UCSD Tuesday night [see pic left]. Check 'em out at www.starfieldonline.com. Everyone sing with me now: "I wanna hold the hand that holds the world!"
Second to that would be Sunday arv's [afternoon's, for all you non-Kiwis who apparently don't get that abbreviation] jazz club. Possibly cos it was the only other gig I've been to this week. Still, it's worthy of a mention just for being something a little different: picture an old warehouse, a woman with a very interesting now-I'm-talking-now-I'm-singing vocal style, a big bass and a grand piano. Interesting? I think that's the right word for it.
Eccentric person of the week: I'll call him Doug. Met him today while sitting on a grassy patch at campus, enjoying the sunshine and reading my bible. Doug's been homeless since he moved to San Diego, sleeping on the beach - by choice it seems. He's got a very interesting outlook on life. Tried to convince me Jesus was a devoted vegetarian - Doug's a vegan himself - and talked a lot about transmission, a bit about the cosmos and other such er, interesting, ideas. Again, I think "interesting" is the best description I could give you, without placing a value judgment on anything.
Party of the week: Esther's surprise congrats-on-getting-into-Berkeley-for-grad-school party. Lots of delish Asian food. Mmm, dumplings...
American-movie-moment of the week: Eating fresh-from-the-oven cookies made from that pre-mixed cookie dough stuff. No, it's not just a Clueless thing, they really do eat these in real life.
Embarassment of the week: Yeah right, as if I'm gonna put that on here!
News of the week[s]: In the past few weeks, two of my friends have given birth [to two gorgeous little boys!], I found out another's expecting, and yet another got engaged. We're growing up so fast!
Annoyance of the week: They changed the format of this site! Ug-ly! To look back at past entries, you now need to scroll using the white date bar at the top of this entry. However, the message board works as per usual so feel free to leave me comments [hint, hint].
