Day 23 Mansilla de las Mulas
Roughly translated we are in Hand on the Saddle of the Mules. A very old walled city (picture) - 12th century.
Nice easy stroll today on flat pathway lined the entire way with maple trees. Leaves are starting to fall and crunchy under foot; fall is in the air and in the night temps which will be falling to zero by mid week. Weather still clear although quite hazy due to forest fires in Galicia, the province to the west of us. We could see the mountains of Galicia today, which we will reach and start climbing by the weekend. Can hardly wait to get off the Meseta, which is easy walking but boring.
Reaching the city of Leon tomorrow where we will take a second rest day. Been walking 17 days without a break and our bodies and minds need one. Real chance of finding an english language paper too and maybe even a book to read. Travel book advises of much architectural splendor which cannot be appreciated in one day and our legs and feet are crying out for some down time; will be good.
