Day 21. To Sahagun
Three weeks on the road today and loving it more each day. We are holding our swatters which have been quite a hit with other peregrinos, not to mention the flies.
The picture from the previous blog was of bodegas (caves) dug into a hillside to hold wine and perhaps vegetables. We see them frequently although these are the first we have seen with TV antennas. Must be man-bodegas.
I have been musing about doing this Camino again but on a mountain bike. Sure would be quicker although as a walker I have come to dislike bikers as they don't use bells to warn they are coming up behind, and scare the living daylights out of us daily. Really dangerous and rude. Will put this ride on the bucket list but it is unlikely to make the cutoff for action. We have seen a few bikers every day except today for some reason.
We have been thinking about getting bikes in Palm Desert and also a friend has suggested biking with him from John O'Groats to Lands End. NE Scotland to SW England. Bit scary as this is all roads in a non-biking country. More likely to do the Rhine which has bike paths.
Having lots of time to think and not much to think about, I wonder about bikes and bike culture. I have noticed, as they speed by us, that every biker has a wee tush, although quite a number have protruding stomachs. These don't usually go together. I have managed so far to avoid this particular combination. Maybe those biking shorts have steel straps in them.
So the chicken and egg question arises. Does biking lead to having a wee tush (in which case we should buy several bikes), or do only people with a wee tush bike (in which case it would be a crime for us to own bikes)? Scientific advice solicited.
So to the toes. Both big toenails are looked at and treated every second day. No help or even a look from Lynn. And nursing is in her family. Am I walking with the wrong sister?? Both nails are loose, ooze bubbles after a soak, and are taped down solidly between treatments. I will need a general anesthetic to get them properly fixed & to knock me out so I don't have to watch!
And so to dinner, if we can find a place which opens before 9:30 pm.

joanna yuck on the toes! i admire your perserverance in the face of that kind of icky pain. I can't handle anything to do with feet. perhaps Lynn is the same.... bike shorts do have ridiculous reinforcements equalling the holding power of steel but if you put that on your tummy you would die a slow and painful death so dont' even go there!
