Day 32. To O'Cebreiro - Pron. Oh-thay-bray-air-oh.
Only 14 km today but with a climb of 2,500 feet into the mountains of Galicia, mostly in rain. The picture shows where we walked from near the top. Soon after we arrived at destination, heavy fog rolled in and the visibility is down to about a hundred feet and the wind is howling. Good decision not to go on.
We are in a beautiful stone hotel which formed part of a monastic settlement dating back to the 11th century. Next door is the Iglesia de Santa Maria Real dating from the 9th century. Queen Isabella stayed here in 1486 on her pilgrimage to Santiago. Right now we're shivering under the covers as the heat registers seem to be for show only and the power keeps going off.
The countryside is beautiful with fields & lush pastures grazed by cattle, sheep, pigs, geese & chickens.
Looking forward to our climb down the mountain tomorrow. We are now meeting up with the same pilgrims, all a bit older like us and walking at the same pace; a couple of guys from San Diego, William from Toronto, a couple from New Zealand and another from Germany. You could walk the Camino by yourself and never be alone.

Kelty Peregrinos valientes... I've been a silent observer but I want you to know how completely I am with you and how much I have enjoyed following your journey. Every word and photo brings a memory, and you've had me in tears more than once. I know I'm just your whippersnapper of a niece, but I'll say it anyway - I'm proud of you. Climbing to O'Cebreiro was the pinnacle of my Camino, spirtually as well as altitudinally. I will always remember it with gratitude. So I felt this was a fitting time to interject and say 'Buen Camino!' All the way to Santiago, now just a few days ahead... Love you both...
