Day 19. To Carrion de Los Condes
The photo is of our hotel, part of which dates from 1057. It is called Real Monestario, plays Gregorian chants in the lobby and is very luxurious and incredibly inexpensive like everything else in Spain. $130 and by far the most we have spent and would be 4 times that in France or most other countries. It is called a Parador which designates that it is government owned as a way of preserving heritage structures. Looks to have over 150 rooms and under a dozen cars in the lot. So I guess it is another of the many budget problems in the Euro area.
Found fly swatters today and a real disappointment that the hotel has found a way to eradicate the flies without my input.
Okay my old career comes out for a minute. I have been very impressed by the mouldings and especially the doors that we see everywhere. Lots of solid pine and we see frequent plantations where the trees are pruned to increase the yield of knot-free lumber. Also some paint grade mouldings although no such doors.
The wood doors are exceptional. Often 15-20 panels of different sizes and shapes and many very old. The doors on the churches are something else. Someone, not me, could do a book on the door architecture and history. Enough about the past; I might have nightmares!
PS: Toenails are hanging on; really good to walk with no pain. Life Is Good.
PSS: Thanks to that computer genius, Brian, Lynn can receive e-mails again:)
