Day 34. To Sarria
Might be the nicest walk today with weather, scenery, modest thousand foot climb, few flies but plenty of the aroma of cattle country. The fountain shown was absolutely in the middle of nowhere halfway up the climb.
Sarria is the main starting point for Spaniards who wish to have a Compostela with a minimum of walking. A pilgrim must walk at least 100 km and have their passport stamped twice a day to gain a Compostela. We expect many
more walkers for the rest of the way as this is a long weekend in Spain with Tuesday being a national holiday. May be forced into an albergue if the hotels are full. Heaven forbid!
We have 670 km behind us and another 112 km to go. Five more days. We will see if the end brings elation or a let down.
I will miss the routine we have at the end of a walk, which is usually between one and two pm. Has also been as early as 11:30 and as late as 3:00. Quick beer in the sun, then to the room to wash our clothes in the sink, or not. Have to admit some days we just put them back into the pack to wear two days later as if they somehow magically became clean in the interval. Different standards when walking the Camino.... Then a shower and nap followed by a drink, then the peregrino meal, which is the same menu across Spain; perhaps I won't miss it!
Just had patatas fritas (French fries) at a Meson as dinner is not until 8:30. First time they have been really hot and first time we have been given salt and ketchup. Life is good!
Watching Barcelona FC and Messi on tv. I am back into football.
