Day 22. To El Burgo Raneros
The first of two days entirely on the senda which is a walking path beside a highway. Easy walking especially with maple trees lining almost the whole path. We avoided a more remote option as it would have lead to a very short day followed by a killer. The Meseta is not as treeless as the guidebooks suggest although it would be rough in the summer.
Weather remains sunny and the heat has broken. Highs of 17 the next few days and lows at 0. Lynn still making me get up early to avoid the sun. Still no sympathy either. My left shoe is eating a hole in my sock every day. Need to fix or buy more socks. 2 days to the big city of Leon with an actual store and the shoes Brian sent me waiting at the post office.
Lynn here: I actually DO have great sympathy for my darlin's feet, I am just a bit queasy looking. Anywho, enough about feet. Lovely walking day, a little afternoon nap and dinner with fellow pilgrims from Australia & Scotland. A card game is in progress at the next table, which seems to be a big pastime in these villages, and we are nursing a tasty brandy which will soon send us off to dreamland. And so to sleep, perhaps to dream.....
