It's such a lovely place we decide to stay for another night. The trees provide a lovely shade as we sit outside for breakfast looking down the river.
We get out some books and maps and get a few ideas together for next week, then a bit after noon we wander over for a drink at the bar, Moulin de Chalingny. Madame is a jovial, blowsy woman who talks very clearly so we can understand.
All the flowers in the stone wall are bright in the sunshine, water hisses over the weir, a dove coos in the tree opposite and the river ripples with little circles as fish bob up to catch flies. Oh, the beer is cold too.
At this moment there cannot be a better place on earth.
In the afternoon Ali uses her bike and we go to the village of St Amand sur Sevre. There's not much there but it's a pretty trip along the lanes past fields full of haystacks and cream coloured cattle.
Back on site we watch an English family arrive. They have been here before and Madame greets them like family, with hugs and kisses.
In the evening we go over to the terrace for some wine. We ask if we can eat there. Madame says she isn't cooking tonight. No, we say, our salad is ready in the van, can we bring it over. Don't you have a table, she asks. Yes, we say but the view here... "Ah! Oui!" with outstreched arms she finally gets it. Of course we can eat here. Ali fetches our salad Nicoise and as she returns to the table there is a cheer from the locals on a nearby table and "Bon appetite!"
Later we go up to the field to watch the sunset.
Summertime, as summertime should be.
