Although Saint Fargeau looks to be an interesting and attractive town, worth a visit, it's forecast to be 35C again and we agree to have a bit of a drive to run the coolbox and charge the batteries.
We check a few options for time and distance and opt for a Passion we used on the way to Monza almost two years ago to the day; Domaine de Marsoif in Villecellier between Orleans and Le Mans.
The aire has a good service point which we use before setting the A/C to Max and heading towards Orlean. On the way we pass through some towns we remember from 2014; along the riverside at Gien and masses of flowers in Dampierre-en-Burly. By the time we call into a little supermarket it is 34C and Nick keeps the engine and A/C running for the 12-15 minutes Ali is having her fun.
Around Orleans is not too busy, then it is mile after mile of straight roads punctuated by the ocassional roundabout and village. The land is so flat, either golden corn or withered sunflowers but in other ways quite featureless, certainly none of the wine-berries we've seen recently.
We leave the main road and drive the mile or so to Dme Marsoif. It's all just as it was two years ago, even the two dogs, although grown, still have one with an orange collar and the other green. Ali arranges tasting at 18:00 and we park in the shade of a huge chestnut tree.
When we go for tasting we notice here, like a lot of the wine Passions, how the prices have risen. The €4 to €5 a bottle, typical in 2014 is now €7 to €9, so we just buy less of it. The good news is she has a very nice Petit Chablis which makes up for us missing out in Chablis the other day and averages out the cost. Madame finds her visitors book and confims we were here on 31st August 2014.
Back beside the van we sit out enjoying the cooling breeze as the sun dips lower. With the flat land the sky is huge and high mares' tails clouds form over its graduated azure surface.
By coincidence, Ali cooks spag-bol, which was the same as we had on 31/8/14
