For a field in the middle of a residential area we could not have had a more peaceful night. By the time we are up some of the camprs are already sunning themselves. We watch the French morning ritual of the Thetford Parade as they gather around the service point chatting and emptying their toilet cassettes.
We wait until it's clear then drive over and use the services before setting off along some of the coast road.
The temperature is 29c when we get to Porspoder and park by the low sea wall. Little boats sit marooned on the mud and seaweed where gull peck about for food. A bit further is Melon, another natural harbour of rocks, where a few people are grubbing for shellfish.
There is a large tide here, the watermark is 9 or 10 metres above the flats. The inlet is protected from the sea by a rugged outcrop. At its highest point sits a menhir, a huge stone propped up on others like a giant coffee table.
We ,move on past the coastal reefs with lighthouses ever in view as the temperature climbs to 32C.
We read there is an aire at Lampaul Plourazel, which we find easily, but decide to stop only for lunch. Set on terraces among the dunes, itis quite busy with uneven, slopy pitches and nothing of interest nearby.
As we bimble around the coast and countryside we try three others, none of which are bad, just very busy and too far away from anything but the cliff paths, inaccessible to us.
We drive throgh a very busy Le Conquet, changed a lot since our last time here, and on around the coast to Pointe St Mathieu, where we stayed a few times in the hotel beside the lighthouse.
Just off the road to Brest we enter Locmaria Plouzane and find our aire. It's a lovely little spot with parking for 12 vans in a semi circle under trees, with a beautiful lake 50 metres away.
The air has become heavy and hot, feeling like thunder, and although there is a small shower nothing comes of it.
After the bouncy roads we decide on a nap, but the tranquility is shattered by municipal grass cutters scooting around on baby combine harvesters which sound like they are powered by old Concord engines.
Early evening the air freshens and the sun cast dappled shadows through the trees.
Ali makes tropical chicken, a cold, spicy dish of chicken, rice, prawns, bananas and curry sauce.
