Neither of us are feeling so good this morning, both slightly upset tummies, possibly a result of the fridge playing up. There is more thunder and rain and it's hot and oppressive.
Intending to head north, we have to somehow get around or through Lyon. We explore all sorts of options, programming Snoopy 'til his chips hurt and we've bickered. Every route is a compromise between time and distance and in the end we opt for the default, assuming the through-traffic route will be like Nante Poitiers and Niort.
We sevice the van and leave the lovely little aire and town behind us. By now the rain has stopped and it's cooler and fresher, which is very welcome. The route through the farming areas is ppleasant enough and then there are busy sections around Vienne and in towards Lyon. Eventually the motorway comes to a standstill, not helped by a lane changer being kissed by a cement lorry blocking one lane while the drivers make friends.
It's stop and go for 4 miles along the river, pat the modernistically stylled station and through underpasses.
Once free we see southbound traffic queuing through the same misery, and thereafter we drive through a series of maize and sunflower fields plus plenty of vineyards.
Our destination is a Camping-car Park in Villefranche sur Soane, near the river. CCPs are a 'no-frills campsite' franchise, and this one is great; large shaded hardstandings, plenty of grass space between, service point, electric and strong wifi all for €12
It's the first time this trip we've had mains electricity, but at least we can avoid wasting more than the site fee in food. We park and relax then try to fix the fridge. Nothing obviously wrong but the gas won't light. Ali is in despair when the 230v side doesn't come on then finds the isolater switch deep in a cupboard has been knocked off.
Beside the site the river is busy with cruisers and swans, all very tranquil, meaning the day ends better than it started.
Using the internet we find a camping car workshop twenty miles up the road so perhaps w'll pay them a visit tomorrow en route to see if they can fix the fridge's gas ignition.
