It's overcast this morning and thunder has been rumbling around since dawn, but by the time we leave the sun is shining and it's warming up.
We are continuing the tourist route in the book, which takes us back to Arnac Pompadour, where we stop for a little look around. There is an impressive chateau and attractive square, and a big equestrian centre with a race course and eventing courses where we see a couple of horses practicing.
The route winds up and down through wooded hills until we stop at a viewpoint over Vigeois, looking down over the town and river.
It is all pretty, with panoramic views along the way to Voutezac, where we stop in a flowery square for lunch.
At Allassac there is a church with huge flower pots under its arches and neat stone buildings all around.
The next town is Donzenac, a medieval stronghold, but its closeness to Brive and the motoway makes it very busy, with continual traffic.
We leave the tourist route aiming for a Passion near Lanteuil. From the main road it is 4.7 miles of single track swtchback through woods and farmland. Cool in the shade, but there are ditches either side and very few passing places should we meet anything. We don't, and we arrive easily at Ferme Bossard but no-one is at home so we park and wait.
Just as we have made tea the owner arrives and tells us the Passion parking is 100m down the lane and two other vans are already there, so we drive down carefully without spilling the tea and park with a magnificent view over the hills towards Brive la Gaillarde. There is a friendly white horse in the paddock beside us and red kites screeching overhead.
It's 31C when we park but soon the clouds come and streaks of lightening start hitting the hills around us. The temperature drops to 24C with the fresh breeze and sporadic showers. We have a couple of close cracks but in the main the storm stays in the distance.
The evening is much cooler than other recent ones as we enjoy salad with prawns and avacado for dinner.
We are joined by a big Carthago van later on, bet he had fun getting up here. We chuckle as this €90,000 van is driven onto bricks and plywood to level up.
