There is no mist today but it is very cold until the sun comes up. We water up and say goodbye to Claudie then set off for a scenic drive in the direction of Pau.
After our two long days on busy motorways before Christmas, a cross-country bimble is just wat we want.
The road climbs and falls around verdant hills and soon we start to see signs for vineyards producing the speciality of Landes and Geres, Armagnac.
Buildings here have their own style too; herring bone timber frames with wattle and daub walls.
We stop in the aire at Lac d'ube near Barbotan les Thermies for lunch. It's a beautiful spot looking across the lake where cormorants and heron hunt for fish. A copper carpet of leaves spreads through the trees around the edge.
Soon after we get back on the road we can see the jagged Pyrenes away in the distance. We pass through forestry roads, more farm and small towns, then the Nogaro motor racing circuit on the way to our destination, Villa. Two miles from our intended stop we see a Passion sign. When we reach Chateau vziella it is deserted and there are no Passion signs so we return to the first one, Domaine du Branna. It too is deserted but at least it is signposted so we park up to wait for the owners to return.
