The sun is out bright and early this morning athought the air temperature is only 7C
We deide to go out to the end of the Arzon peninsula, following part of the coast road then heading past Port Crouesty, once a pleasant little port, now a mega-rich sailing centre with a hotel block modelled in the style of a cruise ship. Furthur out is Port Navalo where there is a little bay, narrow streets and small port. We stop for a few minutes by the bay, sparkling in the sunshine, with views across the Gulf du Morbhian. We can only drive slowly past the harbour as there is no parking.
Heading back east towards Sarzeau Grete spots four coypu in the hedge grazing. After thinking the other day that autumn was finishied, today's sunlight and blue sky has brought it all out again. We skirt around Vannes on the main road catching glimpses of Port St Goustan, a favourite place of ours, from the bridge.
After a lunchstop near Baden we head towards Carnac and find the car park for Les Alignments, the famous Carnac standing stones. There are rows and rows of granite stones, the tallest around 4m. The section we see numbers 1100 but over 6000 have been counted around Carnac. Like Stonehenge, their purpose and how they were laid is open to numerous theories, but whatever and whyever, they are an impressive sight. Again the soft afternoon sun brings out the best in the texture of the granite and the rustic backdrop of autumn trees. A Momument Societie workman says it is OK to walk among the stones as only a few people are around. We drive away from the car park past hundreds more, diminishing in size, petering out in a little hamlet then scattered about beyond.
We head onto Belz, another attractive town which has it Christmas decoration strung across te main centre. On the edge of town is a free aire in a park and being a November Monday we are the only two vans. There is another rich sunset this evening.
