There is a lovely sunrise but when we leave the rain has started. We stop in Ruffec for a quick shop and some fuel the head down the dual carriageway towards Bordaux. Showers give way to sunshine and by the time we stop for lunch it is 14 deg and very sunny. As a bonus the aire we stop in has a service point so we slop out before continuing south.
An accident causes some queueing around Bordeaux and we have another short delay when we take the wrong exit. We want to travel alongside the river but the satnav suggests other routes. In the confusion we get separated but texts confirm we are both on the D10 as wanted.
The river is lovely and we pass various chateaux befor meeting below the imposing stone fortress at Langoiran.
A few miles further we pass through Cadillac where there is another huge stone building; castle, barracks, monistary? We just don't know.
We pass alongside the river beneath the huge church a La Reole and see the aire above us where we stopped one afternoon on our first grand tour.
The temperature has risen to 18 deg as we near Meilhan sur Garonne. Two miles later we arrive at maison Labeau, where we stayed for two nights last July. Following our e-mail, proprietor Claudie Labeau is expecting us, and when we arrive she has placed a Union Flag and a welcome notice on the entrance; 'Welcome Nik and Ali and Nik and Ali Friends'.
We are indeed greeted like old friends and invited for wine and nibbles.
Later in the van we have Grete's venison sausage casserole for supper.
