We were meant to meet Martin and Star for lunch in the Haight district today, but Martin had to work. But we'd scheduled a visit to the Haight in our sightseeing tour so we went there anyway.
It was formally hippie central and there is definitely that vibe still going on. The best way to describe it is it's like Camden with loads of tattoo parlours, second-hand clothes, books and music shops.
It was another really hot day and we weren't really in the mood for shopping so we quickly walked down Haight Street, which led up to Golden Gate Park. We passed some unsavoury looking characters at the entrance to the park, but we just followed the joggers and came to a part of the park we recognised by the Conservatory of Flowers. We went for a long walk all the way to Stow Lake where you can rent peddle boats but it was $24 for 1 hour and we were pretty tired from walking so we didn't get one. We looked for the Chinese Pavilion but it was on the other side of Stow Lake so we only managed to see it from afar.
You can also rent loads of different types of bikes (mountain, tandems, choppers) and surreys (they're the ones that can carry lots of people and looks more like a cart) and we saw loads of people on their bikes or skating down the main road as it looked like they closed the road off from traffic as it was a Sunday. The park had a great atmosphere with all the families out having a great time and there's a spot where anyone with wheels congregates to dance or do tricks to music.
After our really long walk we were starving and we rewarded ourselves with those yummy Belly Dogs that we had before. Steve stuck with the Louisiana Hot Link but I tried the Lemon Chicken one, which wasn't too bad, but I did prefer the All Beef one I had before.
