After the previous day's sightseeing we were totally shattered so we didn't wake up until noon. We both felt like we were coming down with something so we just lazed around, conserving energy until we went to Martin and Star's place for dinner. We decided to eat out for lunch at a place called Frjtz that serves Belgian fries, crepes and sandwiches. I'd read about it on Yelp.com and it's only around the corner on Hayes Street so we didn't have far to go, except the weather had taken a turn for the worse and it was freezing outside! Steve had his shorts on and I only had a thin cardigan to keep me warm so we legged it to get some nice hot fries. We ordered 2 large fries and with that you get to choose 2 dips each, so Steve picked the Thai Chili Ketchup and the Red Pepper Mayo and I picked the Chipotle Remoulade (Chipotle is dried Jalepenos and remoulade is like mayo) and Ponzu Ketchup (I had no idea what Ponzu is but it sounded good!). They give you your dips when you pay and a little stick with a number so that the man who brings out the fries can find you. It only came to around $10 because we had the free water, but they do beers and cocktails there too. The fries were nice and chunky, more like the chips we're used to back home! I only managed to eat half of mine as I was still feeling a bit rough.
Then we legged it back to the apartment and I had ANOTHER cup of tea to try and sort myself out (it cures almost all ills) and then we headed out to Twin Peaks which is where Martin and Star live. We'd looked up how to get there on Google Maps and it said we needed to get a tram and then a bus - OK nice and easy. NOT! The tram we waited for never turned up so we decided to walk to the bus stop to keep warm as I was cold even with my Northface jacket and hat on. We saw plenty of people caught out by the weather who were totally underdressed! I guess it will acclimatise us for when we get back to the UK! Anyway, we got a bit lost and couldn't find the bus stop we needed, but then when we found it we had to wait ages for a bus. So a simple 30 minute journey took us an hour and a half! Twin Peaks is really high up so all the houses were swathed in really thick fog - it really was crazy how much the weather had changed since yesterday. It was a shame because everyone has told us that the view from Twin Peaks is really amazing and Steve took his camera hoping to get some good photos. Instead he got pictures of the fog and of me looking grumpy!
Anyway, we eventually got to Martin and Star's place and she cooked us a lovely meal and we also had pumpkin ice cream (very nice!) and chocolate cake. Then we watched The Golden Compass (rubbish story but excellent animation/FX) on their new HDTV after Steve had sorted out Martin's PS3/PSP connection problem. It was a great evening and our journey home was much easier in a taxi!
