Well we moved into our new apartment yesterday and it all went smoothly! Steve asked his friend at work, James, to give us a lift with all our stuff. We didn't have that much stuff really, just 2 suitcases, 2 rucksacks, a folding table and an airbed. Steve had already taken the 2 sleeping bags and pillows to the new apartment when he picked up the keys at lunchtime.
Yep we're pretty much camping in our new apartment! We decided not to rent furniture as they have a weird rule that if you're staying less than 2 months then the minimum you have to pay is $600 per month! So we're saving loads of money by slumming it in our fancy apartment and it's really quite funny. I feel like a kid at a sleepover. It would have been nice to have moved into a fully furnished place with TV and internet but I couldn't find anywhere which has 2-month leases. Plus we were totally seduced by the amazing view here!
There's a Walgreens store (a bit like Wilkinsons) right across the road so we went out and got some supplies after unpacking a bit. As we don't have our pots and pans yet we bought a frozen pizza which we cooked in our oven and it was pretty decent. Then we had Ben & Jerrys ice cream for dessert - yum! We haven't got a TV so we watched some food programmes Steve had downloaded and then watched the first 2 episodes of Heroes Season 3 on www.fancast.com. There's quite a lot of TV we can watch on the internet so I don't think we'll bother getting an actual TV. Oh yeah obviously we have the internet - we found a couple of unsecured wireless connections that we can use for free!
The airbed is really comfortable so we had a good night's sleep last night. The only problem with airbeds is if one person gets up then the other person goes Boing!! hehee!
Oh yeah our room doesn't have a washing machine! We have a dishwasher instead! There's a laundry room in the building so fingers crossed there won't be anymore laundry trauma! There's also a gym for residents so hopefully we'll get super fit whilst we're here (if we can hold back on the Ben & Jerrys!).
This morning we had to have Starbucks for breakfast because even though we managed to buy bowls we couldn't find spoons anywhere so Steve couldn't have his usual cereal for breakfast. The Starbucks is part of our apartment building (which also has offices) so we didn't have to go very far! Steve had a Vanilla Latte (not as good as French Vanilla Coffee!) and a Blueberry muffin and I had a Cappuccino with double expresso (I was wearing my Caffeine T-shirt so the guy making the coffee must have thought I was an addict!) and a Blueberry Stollen cake thingy which was nice. We never go into Starbucks back home so the whole process was a bit crazy with their funny drink sizes and they ask you your name so they can write it on the cup. The guy who made the coffee was really friendly but we also thought he was drunk cos he said "Welcome to Starbucks! Where everyone comes to sober up, including me!".
We're going to buy more stuff for the apartment today when Steve finishes work as there's a shop called Ross (it's a lot like TK Maxx) near his work and then we'll go to Safeway to get proper food so we can cook a proper meal! Woohoo!
