We were supposed to start our sightseeing escapade yesterday, but we had problems with the rent payment and wasted a whole day sorting it out as it was such a mess due to the incompetence of the guy who works in the apartment admin office, but it's sorted for now.
So after sorting out the rent problems we went to Union Square today so Steve could buy some caps. He found the ones he liked in the Westfield Shopping Mall and they were buy 1 get 1 half price so he was pretty happy. Except the shop wouldn't accept cards as payment without ID and we didn't have our passports with us as we've never been asked for ID before, so we had to go and find an ATM, which was a bit of a pain as the Mall is a nightmare to navigate! But we eventually bought Steve's caps and didn't buy anything else as we're trying to save money and nothing really interested us. Things aren't that much cheaper in SF than the UK, although they are suffering from the credit crunch too and there are sales going on, mainly from the stores that have gone bust. I guess that explains the exuberance of the guy that had one of those freestanding stalls, who I unfortunately made eye contact with and he yelled out to me "Hey Miss! Come over here and let me see your nails!" I didn't want him to see my nails which have never had a manicure and I didn't want to buy any nail related products so I quickly ran to the nearest escalator to make my escape!
The best part of the Mall is definitely the food court as there is so much choice and the food is excellent quality. I love the free samples they give out, especially the tri-tip steak, which is melt-in-the-mouth so I purposely walked past twice to get 2 samples. We shared a Beef Panang curry and fried rice from Coriander Thai Gourmet as we'd got food from there before and we knew the portions are generous and the food is tasty. It's amazing you can get restaurant quality food in a food court over here and it's shameful thinking about the standard of food that's offered in UK shopping malls.
We also had our first taste of Pumpkin Pie as we shared a slice that we'd bought in the deli supermarket nearby. The pie was pretty nice as it wasn't too sweet and the taste of pumpkin isn't too overpowering, so I'd get it again.
