My Friday evening started off with WAGAMAMAS, (Ah! My most favourite restaurant... after Busaba, of course.) and ended on Dave's couch. (That sounds a bit weird, but I had to stay at Dave's place cause I had to catch the train EARLY sat morning and he stays North London. Yes, he did offer that I could stay in his room, but he's got this super-scary picture of a clown that completely freaked me out).
My first emotion Saturday morning was feeling extremely irritated with the brain-dead taxi driver who decided to ring the doorbell at 5:00 am and waking Dave's housemates! Then upon arriving at the train station my next emotion was complete shock as I realised there were NO shops open and I couldn't buy any food (I was STARVING) - bearing in mind that I had a 4 hour train ride ahead. (I nearly started crying). My third emotion was feeling ecstatic as I stepped onto the very red Virgin train and I realised that they sell food and snacks on the train AND the canteen was in my carriage!! (I got a very funny look from the guy behind the till after my little shriek - a look saying "Have you never seen food before?". Stupid guy. What does he know any way!?!) So finally with my packet of crisps, Toblerone, and latte, I switched on my ipod and relaxed for the rest of the journey feeling very content. (Just because I can have 4 extreme emotions in less than an hour does NOT make me bipolar!).
It was absolutely amazing seeing my cousin again!! Funny how you can be related to someone and not really know them! Liezl fetched me from the station as hubby (JB) unfortunately had to work. They stay in St Helens, which is about 30 mins by train from Liverpool. We went through to Chester and I went on a City-Sight-Seeing-Tour. (Although it wasn't one of those red buses where you wear headphones, it was a car and my cousin was driving. Hehe! Useless info).
Chester is amazing!! I loved the place!! We were pretty hungry so our first stop was at Caf?ero and while we were sitting munching away we heard this commotion and drumming ... it was the "Midsummer Watch Parade"!! (Liezl, I Googled it!). There were all these amazing giant props/floats: an elephant, a pirate ship, a dragon, some people dressed up as angels, devils, goblins, etc. Sooo cool!! Very festive!
We walked around Chester and Liezl showed me the famous Chester walls. She took me to this little take-away shop and if you walk down the stairs you can see ruins of a very ancient heating system (don't know if that's the correct way of explaining it?). The energy around the place was so magnetic, you just want to stay there and entice the walls to tell you a story. Was really amazing!
We then went to St Johns Church - a classic old stone building... so beautiful! In the front wall is a coffin set into the stones, which was a bit... eerie; the coffin was upright and had the words "Dust to Dust" written inside. (We also saw massive mice in the churchyard and also a very greedy squirrel!!). I always find churches and cathedrals so intriguing and exciting! The architecture is usually so exquisite and there's so much history and stories; it makes me wish I lived back in the olden days...!
Then we made our way to the Grosvenor Museum. I love museums!! They had the most impressive collection of Roman tombstones. Very fascinating!! Something that really puzzles me is that they'll have a picture of what the tombstones looked like back in the days, and it always makes me wonder how the historians would know what it looked like! - even if they only have the left top corner and a tiny piece in the middle??! How do they know?! I think they just make it up. (Hehe, just kidding!). The museum also had 3 floors, which represented the different eras (Victorian, Georgian and, i think, Edwardian. If i remember correctly....). The playrooms are my favourite! There's always bound to be a rocking horse!!
Liezl and I then went tothe hospital estatewhere theywork andwe met JB fordinner. AND I SAW KRIMPIES!!! (I got so excited to tell you that i couldn't type the previous sentence fast enough!). THEY ARE SO CUTE!!! (krimpies = krimpvarkies = hedghogs). HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A KRIMPIE? I WANT ONE!!! They are so adorable and funny... when they get a fright they freeze on the spot so you "cant see them". Or like Liezl put it: "they're hiding". So cute!!
Had really yummy dinner and it was so nice to catch up! JB was working so we couldn't stay too long and it was getting pretty late... Liezl and I went home and stayed up until morning hours chatting away... (I think I need to start a new mail, cause this one's becoming a tad long?.)- comments
