What a tiring day!! I had to get up at 7:30 (which for the past 2
weeks is REALLY EARLY) just to catch a bus, a train, and 2 tubes to
get to my interview at 10…. Just to get home NOW… it is 16:00!!
The good news is that I've already got 2 interviews lined up for
Monday (and hopefully a third). Both are with lawfirms (SOMEBODY
PLEASE SHOOT ME) as legal secretary/PA. The salary is really good, but
I cant say I'm jumping up and down with excitement. I don't like
working for lawyers (no offence to my 2 favourite lawyer friends: Deon
and Chantal. Lets just refer to you as my "special" friends).
Dave also phoned me today and he works just down the road from
Liverpool Station (where my interview was) so we hooked up for a quick
chat. I haven't seen him in over 2 years and it was fab catching up!!!
At least he kept me busy while I was waiting for the agent to confirm
the interviews (she was trying to set them up for today… damn pushy
recruitment agent, SO typical *roll eyes* …. Once again no offence to
my favourite recruitment agent friend Mareli).
Unfortunately I do not really have any news. I've just basically been
at home this week, went into "town" twice to meet Marcos for lunch and
then today was a big outing to the agent.
Here is some insight though on lessons I've learnt in my first few
days in London:
(1) Do not finish all the ham, cause that would upset Marcos;
(2) £3 for a shooter is the going-rate (ARGH!);
(3) Do not – under any circumstances – eat MacDonalds;
(4) If you're on a train and suddenly a group of 10-year old boys
board…. Leave immediately, or stay and get a severe headache;
(5) If you don't run, you WILL miss the bus…
(6) BUT ….. don't despair… there will be another bus in only 9 minutes;
(7) If you want to buy a "1-day-return-ticket-for-Zone-1" and you're
buying it from the ticket machine, it cannot mind read that you want
it for the NEXT day, because if you think that, you will waste £6 (and
that's 2x shooters).
(8) You really can wear ANYTHING. No, I mean anything. The people here
have got NO CLUE as to fashion, style, colour. Nada. Nothing. Geen;
(9) The last lesson that I've learnt in my precious 7 days in London
is that when you're on the overland train going from Earlsfield (where
I stay) to Waterloo, and if you have a good imagination (which I do),
you can pretend you're in the Rainforest. No, …. Really! If you
concentrate really, really hard you can get carried away on a small
trip to wonderland…. The trees here are really gorgeous and its sooo
green! Oh and if you're at the bottom of the station every now and
again you hear thunder! I SWEAR! (ok, so it's the sound of the train
going over the bridge, but it could've been thunder…). It's the little
things that you need to do to keep your sanity… ;-)
I miss you all like mad. I already shed a tear or two which resulted
in a 2 hour pep-talk from Marcos about how "its normal" and "things
will get better", shame poor guy really had his hands full. PLUS I had
to cook the other night… (Michelle stop laughing) so you cant say I'm
not trying. And I've been given strict instructions that I'm not
allowed to finish the chocolate (which I have done already) before I
went to go buy milk (which I haven't done yet), so I better go buy
some milk, before I'm in trouble.
Hope you are all well and please write some news as to whats been
hap'nin back in
"sunny-South-Africa-which-is-not-really-so-sunny-at-the-moment".
Lots of hugs and kisses!!
