Oh my goodness, what a crazy weekend full of excitement, fun, giggles and adventures!! Here's a small insight: Thursday night Dave and I went to Wagamamas for dinner (my favourite!!!!) and thereafter to the movies. ( Lesson nr 1: Woman are great at multi-tasking. I could manage a large popcorn, my bulky jacket, my bag, another bag, a book, a large coke and chocolates, hand in our tickets and open the door for Dave who was ONLY carrying an ice-cream....)!! Friday, Dianne and I went to Wimbledon to listen to a band .... was SO much fun. ( Lesson nr 2: If you had a bit of wine, dont give the taxi driver the wrong home address, cause then you have to walk extra far. And no, taxis also dont have a credit card machine installed in the taxi, no matter how you plead.) Saturday was the Cambridge vs Oxford boat race! We got there quite early to secure our spot, so we managed to sit right in front on the pier... eating oysters and biscuits with creamcheese and wine.... FA-BU-LOUS!!! Afterwards went for a bit of a boogie session at a house-party. ( Lession nr 3: When attending occassions like the boat race, make sure you do your home work, otherwise you might get stuck behind a big boat and wont actually see the race. But hey! Have another cheese cracker and some wine!) Sunday Melissa and I went for a looong walk as it was a beautiful sunny day!! Got some take-away lattes and went to go chill in a park. Was so nice!!!! In the evening the girls went for dinner and then to The Grand in Clapham as the LoveDJs were playing there. Then finally yesterday (Monday), Dianne and I went to Windsor!! How AMAZING!! It truly was one of my most favourite days so far! The castle is MAG-NI-FI-CENT!! I dont think my words or any pics I took can do it justice!! St. George's chapel was so beautiful and we saw where the Queen Mother is buried next to her husband, King George (she survived him with exactly 50 years!!). The Choir Enclosure was probably the most amazing (I think for Di as well). (We weren't allowed to take pics unfortunately). The Knights of the Garter had special seats (also the king, priests, vicars, etc.). What I found so fascinating is that a helmet, sword and banner is placed above the stall of each Knight. If it was a woman, it'll have a crown or coronet. The carvings were just out of this world (and it had us reminiscing about why they would want to spend HOURS carving such intricate detail, but we came to the conclusion that they had no TV in those days). The State Apartments were also rather remarkable. We saw some major artworks (by Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Holbein, Rubens, Da Vinci...) I think they were mostly originals (I was only half-listening). We saw fine tapestries and porcelain, sculpture and armour! (Lesson nr 4: If you have a portable map of Windsor Castle it will not say "You are here"!!) See, I have to explain that when Di and I do anything its always a rather scatty experience, cause neither of us ever makes any decisions and we find ourselves unprepared for everything!! Like buying our train tickets at 13:57 when the train leaves at 13:58.... like arriving at the castle and having to walk all the way back cause we forgot to get audio guides... like walking with painful expressions cause theres just too many coffee shops to choose from and we just dont know which one to go to! After finally walking across the whole of Windsor - and stumbling across the cool-looking Crooked House - we finally decided on a coffee shop and filled our rumbling tummies with some yummy munchies (hehe). Then we decided its too early to go home, so we went for another walk all the way to Eaton College (very larny you know! all the royals go to school there... la-di-da!). But as it was quite late everything was closed so we couldn't go inside. We did manage to find our way around the back and had to stand on some grave to peek inside the school yard. Was kinda eerie. Graves everywhere. (Dating back to like 1058).
