Krystal's Travels
I'm not quite sure why I'm still up writing in this thing right now. It's 1:40 am and I have class at 9:15. I guess the good thing is that I'm actually home...
I decided this evening that I wanted to cook so I went to Beth's and made eggplant parmesan with potatoes and green beans. Since I don't have an oven and she does, it worked out well. Plus she was more than happy for me to cook for her and I was more than happy to let her wash the dishes afterwards. It worked out well. Kali came too. She just got back from Paris today. I want to go to Paris. However, Rome is higher up on my list. I also met Beth's roommates. They were pretty nice and I had a nice conversation with one of them. Her name is Bettina and she said that I have a good accent to my German. She even asked if I had grown up with German in the house when I was little. Granted I did a little bit but it was a nice compliment. Mostly I give credit to my awesome teachers. It really helps when you learn a language from somebody who has a really good accent. But talking to Bettina made me wish I had some German friends here to talk in German with. Don't get me wrong, I love the English speaking friends I've made here, but we don't speak a whole lot of German with each other. Plus, it's not quite the same speaking to an American in German than it is to a native German. I can speak to Americans in German at home. It's just hard to make German friends here. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough but they just don't seem interested in making friends, especially if they're American. I rarely talk to my roommate. Most of the time I don't know if she's home or not, and when she is, she's in her room. Granted there's not really a common room for us to just hang out in, but she hasn't really tried to get to know me. In turn, I don't feel motivated to get to know her. Personally, if I had a foreign student living with me for a semester, I would want to show them around and try to help them fit in. Paula (my roommate) is more concerned with whether I make the door click shut in the middle of the night, waking her up in the room next door. Seriously, if you're that light of a sleeper, wear some earplugs!
I think I twisted my foot or pulled a muscle in my foot or something. It's been bothering me for a week now. It's making me mad, especially since I walk everywhere (except to my place...I live on the ends of the earth). I hope it starts behaving soon before I cut it off. That would be bad.
In conclusion, I would like to begin a list of interesting, and sometimes annoying things that I've noticed here:
- No ice...sometimes if you're lucky you might get 4 pieces, but no more
- It's often cheaper to drink beer than it is to drink soda and definitely cheaper than water.
- No matter how old you are, purple hair is somehow acceptable...this is not okay with me.
- Apparently it's legal to pee in public...especially true for men and children
- Leipzig is stuck in the 80's fashion-wise...we're talking lots of denim jackets and denim-on-denim outfits...and just bad fashion in general
I think studying abroad has made me snobby. Also it's made me very glad to be American. Is this a bad thing?
Okay I think I'm done with my rant. Bis morgen!
