Krystal's Travels
Today I went with WILMA to Görlitz, which is the easternmost city in Germany on the German/Polish border. It was pretty and a beautiful day for sightseeing. It's also one of the few cities in Germany that wasn't destroyed in the war so everything is in great condition. The Holy Grave is there, which is basically a replica of the Holy Grave in Jeruselem. I think it's so that people don't have to go all the way to Jeruselem to see it or something like that. I didn't totally understand why it was there. It was still interesting to see though. We did a little tour of the city and saw a lot of really pretty buildings in all sorts of architectural styles from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
After the city tour we got an hour of free time so Beth, Kali, and I made our way over to Poland to have a look around. Of course, since were aren't EU citizens we had to go to a different bridge to cross the border. The Polish side of the city was not nearly as pretty. Most of the stores were closed so there wasn't much to do. We changed over 10 euros for zlote and got 38 zlote (zelotey). However, since most of the stores were closed, we ended up spending half of it on polish beer and vodka. I kept the rest for souveniers since it wasn't really worth changing back into euros.
On the way back to Leipzig we had to change trains twice, which was a pain cause we were tired but we didn't want to fall asleep and miss getting of the train. At one point, the conductor stopped and got off the train. Everybody was looking around trying to figure out what was going on. When we looked out the window, we saw that he was stopping to smoke a cigarette! Not cool. We got back to Leipzig about 10 pm and got some McDonalds cause we were pretty hungry and there wasn't much else to do. Apparently that's where all the teenagers go on Saturday nights. Ugh. Some girl cut me in line and when I tried to get back in front of her she said "Hey no cutting!" What in the world?! Then they stood there making fun of me cause they didn't think I spoke German. People can be so rude. Well that's all for now. More later.
