Krystal's Travels
Feeling better today. I woke up and was able to eat breakfast. By then I was starving. Johann's daughter Birte and her daughter Jana came over for lunch and Mother's Day. Jana is so adorable. She was showing off a bit but she was still cute. We had white asparagus with potatoes and hollandaise sauce for lunch. It was tasty. The Germans absolutely love white asparagus. It's a little less bitter and more tender than green asparagus. Everywhere you go restaurants have a special menu for asparagus dishes since it's in season.
After lunch Johann took Jana and me on a tour of Attendorn. First we went to the castle called Burg Schnellenberg. We didn't have time to go into the museum but it was pretty outside. Well, we thought we didn't have time but I'll get to that story later. After the castle Johann took me around Attendorn and showed me the school where he taught and Jana showed me her school. It's a nice little town. It's pretty small but it was a very important town in the middle ages because it's on a river. After our little tour we went to Birte's to drop off Jana and see their pets. They have 2 dogs, a cat, 4 rabbits, and a big fish tank. We couldn't stay long cause I had to get to the train station. We got to Finnentrop a little early so we went to have a coffee. The coffee took forever and then it was really hot so I didn't get to drink it. Then right before the train got there I showed Johann my itinerary and saw that I had gotten my times mixed up. I read it wrong and thought I had to leave at 7 when it was really 9. Stupid military time. So we went back to Attendorn and had dinner before heading back to the train station for the second time. Let me tell you, 10 hour train rides are not fun, especially on the night train. The seats were uncomfortable, and they stopped for 2 1/2 hours at some station. I guess so they wouldn't arrive in the middle of the night but I would have rather gotten it over with. I didn't sleep at all so I was really really tired on Monday. I got in at 7 am. I'm glad I got to go though. Johann wants me to come visit him this summer at his apartment up north on the sea. I think I'll take him up on that.
