Krystal's Travels
Okay so maybe I wasn't ready for this afterall...
This morning I got up around 7:30, got ready, ate breakfast, and checked out of my room. Since I had so much stuff I decided to call a taxi since I really had no idea where I was going. That seemed to go fine...or so I thought. I went into the building where he left me off and walked around trying to figure out where I was...turns out I was in the wrong building. The building I was supposed to be in was a block away. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have 2 big suitcases to drag along. It also wouldn't have been such a big deal if the streets and sidewalks weren't covered in snow and ice. Finally I found where I was supposed to go and got my information. I was told to go downstairs and pay my rent and deposit. Do they take credit cards? No Only cash. So then I had to go back down the street to where I was originally dropped off to find a cash machine. I went into citibank and for some reason it wouldn't accept my card. So I asked the people there and it wasn't until I showed them that I had a Citibank card that they would give me money with my debit card. Then I went back (dragging my bags through the snow again) to pay my rent. That went much more smoothly. Off I went in search of my new home for the next 5 months. Trying to figure out which tram to take was a feat in itself. I didn't know where I was supposed to by a ticket, nor could I figure out how once I found it. I did find another girl in the same situation as me that I saw when I was waiting to talk to the person in charge of the residence halls. It turns out she lives in the same complex that I do. We both risked it and got on the tram without a ticket but it turned out to be okay. Nobody came around. Finally I got my key and everything and got into my room. It's pretty small but it will do. I have a roommate named Paula. Her room is pretty big. It's kind of hard to understand her though cause she talks really fast. I was pretty tired after I got everything in so instead of unpacking I took a nap, then unpacked when I woke up. Now I just got back from exploring the shopping center nearby and buying a few groceries. That was kinda wierd...2 things I learned: 1) You have to weigh your own fruit and 2) Milk is not kept cold...ew. I'm sure hoping that they do something to keep it fresh cause I'd rather not get sick. I need to go back out to buy some bed linens and towels so I can take a shower and have something to sleep on tonight. I did find a place to by them though so I know exactly where to go.
Hopefully tomorrow will go a little easier. I'm supposed to be at the orientation thing at 10:00. I think once I get used to everything it will go better.
