European Adventure 2017
We have decided to give our navigation systems names. The Wilson's had Catherine but suddenly for no reason the voice changed and they now have Jane. The Carnies have a Tom Tom so theirs is Tommy and we have Mona (aka Moaner) as she is forever telling us "you are OVER the speed limit". Watch out Ryan there may be a stack of tickets at your place after we leave so save your money!!
We all have radio telephones with us which have been worth their weight in gold for communicating as we drive along. From tiny narrow lanes to 8 and sometimes 10 lane motorways there are always little callenges as we head down towards Canterbury and Dover.
After watching the sunset over the boats in the little village where we stayed last night we wandered down the road and found some interesting house boats used as permanent residences.
This afternoon Mandy took us on a mystery tour into Margate to something she said would either be a Wow moment or a fizzer. It was definitely a WOW. We wound our way through tiny streets to Grotto Hill which was impassable for the motorhomes and extremely steep. Parking was again an issue but some sweet talking by Geoff to the owner of a small business and we had it sussed. We walked up the steep road to a shell grotto. This is amazing. According to legend in 1835 James Newlove lowered his son into a hole in the ground that had appeared during the digging of a duck pond. The boy emerged describing tunnels covered with shells. He had discovered the Shell Grotto, it's walls decorated with strange symbols mosaiced in 4.6million shells. Noone can explain why or by whom. It really is worth a visit if you are over this way.
Thank you to all of you who have made comments on the blog. It is nice to know that it is being read an that you are enjoying our travels with us. I will try to answer any questions or comments but I can usually only get to see them when I am on WIFI. I do some of the writing on my phone but it is only a 'light' version and doesn't give me as many options as when using the full version. Please keep the comments coming!
