A bright and sunny morning greets us for our last full day in France for this trip. The bay is full of water and the drains beside the van do their own impression of the Zadar sea organ as the ripples slosh in and out. There is a small altercation between the French owner of the van next to us and the German who has parked too close to him while he waits for the service point. Frau Grumpy moans and shouts but they move anyway.
Late morning we slop out for the last time and make the short trip to the aire in Roscoff, it looks busy but there are still a few front row spaces. We chat with a chap from north Devon then set off for the town and port we never tire of.
There is quite a breeze and the beaches that were busy seven weeks ago are empty today. The town is still cheery with flowers but there is less of a holiday feel then there was then. Or is that just us?
We fancy a nice lunch to finish our tour and are pleased to see Mary Stuart is open for lunch, which is not always the case. Our favourite eatery here has never disappointed us before and it doesn't today. Food and service are as good as always.
Although we are used to the big tides here, we have never seen the sea disappear like it has this afternoon. Walking out on the 'bridge to nowhere' there are scores of people going back and we discover the Il d'Batz ferries are running from the end. The breeze has strengthened to a good wind and by the time we've been along the harbour and back to town grey clouds are looming.
Back at the van the aire has really filled, with vans packed along the back row. Getting inside out of the wind makes our faces burn, but the rain holds off for now.
Still full from our big lunch we have a glass of shandy and a few crisps, get everything squared away for tomorrow and have an early night.
The strengthening wind is not a good forebearing for tomorrow's crossing.
