Last night we slept like logs and only wake to the 'camperstop alarm'; the "dugga-dugga-dugga" of a Fiat diesel hauling an early riser back onto the road.
There are a few light showers but by late morning it has cleared up and we prepare to go into town. As we are locking up a local woman comes over and explains to us that a new rule came in last May, saying blue-badge holders don't have to pay in the aires. She adds if it is a ticketed barrier then too bad but otherwise just put up the badge.
We came to Honfleur in October 2014 during a Sunday shrimp festival and the place was packed. Today there are far fewer people and we can look and move at a more leisurely pace. It's as charming as before, the jumble of 5 and 6 storey, timber framed and tile-clad buildings surrounding the harbour. Last time we had a short wait before pouncing on a table for lunch, today we amble to and fro looking at menus before settling at La Bisquine on the water's edge under a patio heater. Soon more diners arrive and by the time we are on our starters the terrace is lively. We have an excellent three course lunch over two hours with a lovely bottle of muscadet. It ain't cheap but if you can't push the boat out in as beautiful a harbour as this, then when can you?
The cobbled wharves do little to help Nick's digestion, but we get out to a park where polyanthus and californian poppies are in flower. Later we tour the backstreets past the quirky wooden church and muse at various styles, some may say abilities, of artwork. Back on the quayside it is time for coffee before returning to the van and putting the blue badge up for a second night here.
