20km away from Franz Josef was another giant block of ice, Fox Glacier. We only passed through here on the way to our next place, Wanaka, so we only had time for a few walks. We've been here for 3 days now and have had a very active time. Like most places in New Zealand its all about the walking and hiking and to see spectacular views of the Franz Josef Glacier you have to go on one of the longer walks. A 3 hour drive brought us to Westport on the west coast of the south island. We arrived with the rain hammering down, somehow we managed to get our tent up okay. A nice scenic drive across land brought us to Nelson City. We had a bad start here as Lynz noticed a crack on the windscreen of our car, when we looked at it we realised a small stone had hit the window and developed a crack. Great stuff! After ringing the rental company we took the car to a autoscreen garage who sorted it out within a hour.
