We have had only one day here and it was probably the most eventful day of our lives. Today we jumped out of an areoplane at 15,000 feet - you know, as you do! We call this the best experience of our lives, it is also known as skydiving. We had planned to do this in Queenstown on the south island, but after looking through our guide book last night, it made good sense to do it in Taupo as it was nearly half the price and everything about the dive would be the same. We decided to do it the day we would be leaving Taupo, so we went to the skydive centre to book today. Today was so clear and they wasn't a cloud in sight, it was a perfect day to skydive. As the weather the last few days has been unpredictable, we thought what the hell, lets do it now!
"When can you fit us in?"
"In one hour" was the reply
Oh dear, time to start panicing! We initially went for the 12,000 feet drop, which would give us 45 seconds freefall, but by the time we had finished filling the health and safety forms in we had decided to go all out for it and opted for the 15,000 feet option. Our thought is if you are going to do something like this you might as well do it all or nothing! Time to get changed in our jumpsuits, by this time we were starting to get abit nervous and we were thinking what the hell are we doing!! In the plane we were with a few other people who had opted to go for the 12,000 feet dive and as they jumped out (almost like a convey belt), we soon realised it was only us two going for the big daddy jump! Up another 3000 feet (we even had to put on a oxygen mask) this was it, no turning back now. Ladies first, Lynz jumped out shortly followed by Lee. The feeling sat on the side of the plane looking down and getting ready to jump was undescribsable and we go a massive buzz off it. They was no time to panic as the instructor attached behing you thrusted you out and there we were, freefalling at an exceptionally fast speed heading for earth. We also had a photographer, which we nearlt forgot about as we couldn't take our eyes off these amazing views you only see on TV. The instructor soon got us looking at the camera and posing for some once in a life time pictures. After over one minute of freefalling, the parachute came to life and opened up (thank god), to give us a nice smooth floating sensation. Time to relax and enjoy the ride, you could see for miles and the scenery was breathtaking. We landed smoothly and with our feet back on the ground we sat and watched the whole experience on DVD, which needless to say we bought! Back down to earth we headed back to our campsite still buzzing with adrenaline and spent the rest of the day relaxing in the pool and chilled for the night. All in all, one of the best days of our lives - not bad considering it was going to be a day of booking and exploring!!
