Not life. And certainly not all my problems. But I think i figured out why people are so unhappy.
We all wait for this defining moment. We expect to wake up and just be okay. Or we think that if we do one thing, everything will get better. I just don't think that happens. Life is a series of events that lead up to something. One moment wouldn't even do someone justice. And if you had that moment, would you recognize it as that? Or would you let it pass you by? Would you see the good in it or pick apart the bad aspects.
When applying for a job on campus, they asked what was the defining moment when I knew Manchester was the place. And I can't pin point a date or an event when I realized that I was home. It was every moment there that mattered to me. It still is. It's not always perfect, but it's home. Every friendship made and lost there means the world to me. Every up and every down has molded me into the person I am still becoming.
So when looking for a defining moment, people often lose hope. We're waiting around for something to just make us feel better. Well forget that, make yourself feel better. Things will come. Others will go. Bad times will seem to take forever. But this too, shall pass. And before you know it, life will be okay again. The bad times will seem so silly and distant. So make it happen. Start today. Life is absolutely beautiful, but it's limited. No one knows when their clock expires so make the most of it. I don't want to look back and regret being sad for such a large amount of time.
Today is the day. Tomorrow is one more step and then the next day and the next day. It a process. And this is my starting point.
Beginnings are scary. Endings are usually sad, but its what's in the middle that counts. So when you find yourself at the beginning, just give hope a chance to float up. And it will.
