Although sad to leave Nelson it was a good feeling to be back on the road again. We left in good time so we had enough time to drive down to Arthers Pass. The road was beautiful on the way down we drove back along the stunning Buller River then down along the end of the Lewis pass and then cutting down past Lake Brunner. Those roads were all stunning but we were completely breath taken once we hit Arthur's Pass! The mountains, rivers, waterfalls and valleys were so dramatic we were stoping every hundred meters or so to take in the scenery and also quite a few photos!!! We stopped at the DOC freesite called Klondyke Corner which was really pretty by the river. The next day we went into Authers Pass village and did some beautiful walks up to a couple of the waterfalls. That evening we decided to go back to the amosite but instead off stopping at the left of the road where we did the night before we turned right down a gravel road, it was bumpy but worth it! No one was there but us an we parked on the edge of a huge river bed with mountains and bush either side. The view was so dramatic and beautiful and even more so because we were the only ones there! That night the winds really picked up and we woke to the van rocking from side to side with the gusts! As we drove east the wind got stronger and stronger and this time we were stopping to photograph the way the wind was blowing the dust and water in the valley into twister type shapes! It was pretty cool. We stopped at a couple of beautiful places for a walk, one was a place called castle hill and the hill there was full of boulders scattered all over the hill! It looked so surreal. We climbed a few easy ones but it was so windy it felt pretty unsafe! As we were leaving the Arthur's Pass road there was a news reporter stood outside in the wind. We later found out that they had to close the road because of the conditions!
