We traveled north up the coast and stopped at a nice DOC campsite right on the seafront and had a nice chilled evening recovering from our late nights at Kaikoura! The next day was a chilled slow start and then up the road to Blenhime, not the most stunning of towns but we had to do a food shop and get a few bits from town. We carried on up north and drove along some beautiful roads surrounded by golden hills and lush orchards and vineyards. We went to the coast north of the town and stopped at a nice beach (we think whites bay) and had a chill and explore on the rocks to the cool natural arch in the cliff. The next bit of road along the coast was one of the most dodgy gravel roads that we have been on; steep and windy with lots of potholes! We came to our destination for the night - Robin Hoods Bay. It was a cool bay in a very secluded spot. We parked looking over the sea and chilled outside for a bit before it started spitting with rain. We cooked our dinner inside the van and by the time we were in bed the rain was getting heavier. Well . . . It got heavier and heavier through the night and when we woke in the morning it was tipping it down! More like cows and horses than cats and dogs!! The bucket outside was practically full and the wheels were 4 inches under water! We were going to take it slow as our ferry from picky on wasn't until 1pm but we decided to get on the road as soon as possible just incase the gravel road the otherside was just as bad! We took it very slow but GEN the van and the roads (although still dodgy and flowing with water) were manageable and we made it to Picton in plenty of time. The ferry journey wasn't too rough considering the weather, the wind was in the right direction. Sailing out of the Marlbrough sounds was quite different to the way in but still stunning!
