On our way to Taupo we bought up a vague conversation that we have had a couple of times that Taupo is the best place to do a skydive, they are the cheapest . . . Have been doing it the longest and it has a pretty awesome view. James has already done a skydive in the UK and is budgeting his big spends for hiring bikes and steaming it down tracks. I however have not done one, we (James) decided to head straight for the Tandem Skydiving Centre to 'enquire' . . . next thing I know I am in a red jump suit being strapped into a harness and a girl is putting an inflatable life jacket round my waist (incase we land in the lake!!) and I am on the plane! To make matters more tense we came back down in the plane and the wind had picked up and it was unsafe to jump . . . not so good for the nerves! After only about half an hour wait the sun came out and the wind dropped and we were off again! I was first to jump!! When we reached a certain height we had to wear oxygen masks and when we hit 15000ft my tandem guy took off my mask and told me to sit on the edge of the plane where the door is with my feet dangling out and smile at the camera! Hummm managed that and next thing I know I am out of the plane staring at the sky thinking I am sure I am meant to be facing down!!! Once I was facing the right way I loved it. (I still now 4 days later have a sore throat from screaming!) The view was stunning and once the parachute was up I could properly take in how beautiful the lake is, we didn't land in it luckily! I was beaming for the rest of the day. I want to go again!!! That night we stayed in a cool free campsite called Reids Farm which is down by the river just before Hucka falls. We got a really nice spot by the river. The next morning we checked out Hucka Falls, it is fantastic! The water seems to leave the lake and flow down the river so fast and at Hucka it is channeled into a small gorge which sends the water wild, the colour is a stunning blue and white it gushes down and then falls into the river the other side causing loads of whirlpools etc, its really beautiful. We then went for a walk around 'The Craters of The Moon' a really cool geothermal area that was yet again different from anything we had seen so far, it really did feel like we were on another planet, we kept on saying it looked like a Dr Who set!
