Waiheke - Atiu Creek
We went for a lovely walk on Waiheke to some 'cascades' through the bush, it was an awesome beautiful walk, very rugged and remote. We camped our last night on the island with the site all to ourselves, right next to the beach! We woke up bright an early and caught the 7:30am ferry over to Aukland. Then we headed up north!!! We drove up the South Head of the Kaupara Harbour and stopped for lunch by some fields filled with cows and peacocks!! We then drove to the Okahukura Peninsula had a look at Port Albert then came across Atiu Creek Regional Park, by this time it was about 7pm and we had no idea where to camp as there was nothing in any books or maps, even the locals didn't know! We saw luckily that you could camp in this park. We payed over the tanoy and got the code to the gate then followed the signs to a beautiful site in the middle of the park. There were so many birds and we were the only ones there!!! When we woke in the morning Kennith the ranger came over on his quad to let us know that we were the campsites maiden campers!! It had only been open since the weekend! We then headed further down the point to Birds Bay where the tide was out so we could walk over to the sand bank island and get an amazing view of the north an south heads of the harbour.
