Lastovo is just as beautiful as last year, if not more so! We had an emotional reunion with Bruno and Olgice and were settled back in "our" rooms in no time. There was lots to talk and laugh about over dinner, it seemed as though it was only yesterday we were here.
This last week has been pure relaxation, reading, swimming, eating, walking.... Just what holidays are made of. The locals remember us and it's great to stop and have a chat. The track up to the village is still as steep as last year and serves as our daily workout! Quite a few people are related to Tony Santic, the owner of Melbourne Cup winner Makaybe Diva, he was born here and is listed as a favourite son! There was only one person swimming in the cove today , we started chatting and she is from Sunbury, another Santic, can you believe it???
There was great anticipation leading up to Thursday's World Cup game between Brazil and Croatia. Bruno set the TV up outside and we cheered the team on with wine and beer and nibbles.... There was great excitement when Croatia scored the first goal... But we were philosophical afterwards.
The weather has been perfect, low thirties every day and the water is warm... Mind you, I cannot make myself swim in the open sea like everyone else. Everyone scoffs at my reluctance, vowing that there are no sharks in Croatia but I can't push it out of my mind. I am quite content to swim off the rocks and go snorkelling but I draw the line at the open sea!
It rained for the first time today. Geoff and I walked up the road to Lastovo selo and , after a few wrong turns in the myriad of lane ways , arrived at our favourite "Konoba Bačvara" for dinner. This tiny restaurant is full of fishing relics- old nets drape the walls , hand woven cane fishing traps beside them and old buoys and memorabilia interspersed between them.
On the way home,in the drizzle, Geoff had to shine his torch so we didn't step on all the frogs jumping about- they look just like stone!
The ferry leaves at 4.30am so we have said our goodbyes... Until next time.....
