Bruno Vodanovich , our very kind host, took us to see the Raca cave this morning. The cave is located on Raca Glava hill and it is a protected geomorphological monument. Jani and Miriam, a young Slovenian couple staying in the cove, also joined us.
We left at 7 this morning to avoid the midday heat but it was still hard going. I totally dispute the location being called a hill, as you can see, it is very definitely a mountain in my book! Thank goodness for walking the track each day, otherwise I can't see how we would have made it! Bruno drove inland for several kilometres and then we walked the last five kilometres at a cracking pace. The views as usual were spectacular and it felt as though we were climbing a goat track at times....
The Raca cave looked to be quite small from the outside but it is actually 70 meters long and consists of several halls and passages featuring unusual rock formations of stalagmites and stalagmites.
I had no idea what to expect. Once inside, it was pitch black and the path twisted its way downhill. Bruno had a small torch at the front and Jani had one at the back. Geoff and Theresa supplemented the light with their "i torch" because you couldn't see where you were putting your feet. At one stage, we had to squeeze sideways through this narrow slash in the stone wall and continue our descent.
That's when I felt a trifle anxious but I wasn't able to dwell on it as there was no turning back. It was basically "put your best foot forward"..... (I felt like we were in an "Indiana Jones" movie.
The cave opened up into these larger passages and was really amazing. It is also home to bat colonies and we had to whisper so as not to disturb them. The temperature was also about 15 degrees cooler and dropped the further we went in.
I must admit that I was glad to get out but it was a thrilling experience.
We were sitting back at a "Konoba" in the village by 9.30 and quaffing "Karlovacko" pivo, as you do, after caving!
Once back at Lucica, we went for a swim and promptly had a siesta!

Linda Rather you than me!!
Sue What a gorgeous day... you are an amazon!
Leila It sounds fantastic! Could you get a good look at the stone formations? If it wasn't for the beer and siesta it sounds like you and dad are on some sort of boot camp with all the walking and hiking! XX
Rachel How courageous!!
