Trogir is a very beautiful 7th century coastal town, only half an hour from Split. Our accommodation is high on the hills surrounding the town. The cover photo is of the view from our balcony and the steep climb here was worth every aching muscle.
We spent the first afternoon swimming and relaxing and of course eating and drinking as the beachfront is lined with small bars and restaurants.
Yesterday morning we walked up and over this huge hill to explore the old town which is another world heritage protected site. We are totally impressed by the beautiful intact buildings and winding streets which remind us of Split but on a smaller scale.
We managed another swim in the clear blue waters of the Adriatic and then spent several hours with our hosts, Ira and Boris learning how to cook some Croatian food.
Expect to be asked to sample marinated fish, an unusual chicken dish and interesting dessert upon our return..... This was washed down with Boris homemade red wine which we drink with water.
Boris' family have land in a village several kilometres away and the chicken , eggs and some of the other ingredients came from there. I asked why the farmers lock jup their animals at night, even the cows and was told it is because of wolves.
The smaller, native wolf is now extinct and the larger Siberian wolf was brought in to replace it. However, food is not abundant and the domestic animals are easy prey.
This afternoon we are catching the ferry to Lastovo, which is in Southern Dalmatia. It will be wonderful to be on the sea again....
