Šolta is only an hour by ferry from Split and quite unspoilt. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw our accomodation for the next three nights... 50 metres from the sea with a view to die for, an explosion of colour on the terrace with pots of pink hydrangea and hanging baskets of geraniums. Mirna, our gracious host, invited us upstairs to her terrace where she had prepared a platter for us- delicate strips of chargrilled zucchini (tikvice) rolled up with a type of tuna paste, home made marinated tiny fish fillets, served on a bed of rocket from the garden. There was also homemade walnut liqueur and red wine, what a welcome!
Less than ten minutes walk around the corner is the sleepy port of Stomorska. It is so beautiful, it makes me wish I could paint.... Yachts are tied up along the promenade, there are a few restaurants mainly specialising in local fish dishes and a tiny Studenac, or grocery store, lots of smiles all around.....Picture perfect!
We drove inland yesterday to a small market and bought some blitva (spinach), krumpir (potatoes) to have with a barbeque for dinner. The apricots were irresistible, plump and ripe, the juice dribbling down my chin ....so sweet.
It never ceases to amaze me how the olive and fig trees, not to mention the fruit and vegetables, all seem to grow out of rock! The old stone houses and walls remind me of inland Croatia near Šibenik, where we stayed last year, they continue to enthrall....
Uta is loving it here of course and it has been great catching up on all the news while we laze in the sun. The water is warming up a little and is very refreshing...... Geoff has yet to make a splash.... Maybe today......
